Scale. — Entrepreneurship, startups, growth, leadership and money for founders. Service journalism in plain American English: practical, optimistic and founder-first, across 6 sections. If a story doesn't help an owner make a better decision, it doesn't run.
The columnists
Each section is led by a house columnist responsible for its voice and its judgment, under the direction of the Editor-in-Chief. The bylines are the outlet's editorial personas: fixed voices that answer for what they sign.
- Sam Rutledge — Founder
Sam Rutledge started Scale. on a simple bet: founders don't need more noise, they need a playbook. He sets the outlet's north star — practical, optimistic, useful. - Diane Archer — Editor-in-Chief
Diane Archer runs the newsroom and its standard: every story has to help a founder make a better decision, and no fact runs without at least two independent sources. - Casey Bramwell — Startup Columnist
Casey Bramwell covers the zero-to-one years — ideas, first customers, fundraising and the unglamorous work of getting a company off the ground. - Rachel Otis — Grow Columnist
Rachel Otis covers growth: sales, marketing, pricing and the strategy calls that turn a small business into a bigger one. - Marcus Hale — Lead Columnist
Marcus Hale covers leadership and management — hiring, culture, headcount and the habits of people who run great companies. - June Calloway — Innovate Columnist
June Calloway covers innovation and trends — the new ideas, categories and consumer shifts that decide who's ahead next year. - Ethan Park — Technology Columnist
Ethan Park covers AI, software and the tools reshaping how business gets done — always through the lens of what an owner should do about it. - Laura Kessler — Money Columnist
Laura Kessler covers capital, taxes, markets and the economy — a founder's guide to the numbers, from runway to revenue.
Method
Every fact requires at least two independent sources — an official primary source or a verified reference outlet — and each piece is checked against a second, independent review before it publishes. Stories are produced with AI assistance under those verification rules. Images accompany the reporting for illustration and are credited to their source where applicable.
Corrections
Every story is correctable. If you spot a factual error, we will correct it with a visible note on the story. Right of reply: named parties may request space to respond.
